About Sharp Cube

Combining rigorous psychological science with practical wisdom to support your personal growth.

Our Story

Sharp Cube began with a simple observation: most people seeking personal growth don't need another motivational quote or generic life hack. They need genuine psychological understanding paired with practical strategies tailored to their specific situation.

Founded in 2014, we started as a small practice focused on bridging the gap between clinical psychology and personal development. Too often, these fields exist in separate worlds. Clinical work addresses pathology, while personal development promotes growth, but rarely do they integrate effectively.

We saw an opportunity to create something different. A place where evidence-based psychological methods meet real-world application. Where you don't need a diagnosis to benefit from professional support. Where the goal isn't just symptom reduction but genuine flourishing.

Over the years, we've worked with hundreds of individuals navigating everything from career transitions to relationship challenges, from managing anxiety to simply wanting to live more intentionally. Each person has taught us something about the diverse ways humans seek and create meaning.

What hasn't changed is our commitment to treating each person as exactly that: a person, not a problem to solve. Your situation is unique. Your path forward will be too.

What We Stand For

Honest Communication

We tell you what we actually think, not what sounds reassuring. Growth requires honesty, and we maintain that even when it's uncomfortable. You deserve practitioners who respect your intelligence enough to be direct.

Evidence-Based Practice

We use methods supported by psychological research. While clinical experience matters, it doesn't override empirical evidence. You shouldn't have to guess whether an approach actually works.

Individual Respect

You're the expert on your own life. We bring psychological knowledge, but you bring lived experience and self-knowledge. Effective work requires both perspectives, with mutual respect.

Practical Application

Understanding without action remains theoretical. Every session should give you something concrete to work with. Insight matters, but so does implementation.

Building Independence

Our goal is to work ourselves out of a job. We're here to help you develop capabilities, not create dependency. Success means you continuing to grow without needing us.

Absolute Confidentiality

What you share stays private. This isn't just professional obligation; it's fundamental to creating the safety necessary for genuine exploration and growth.

How We Think About Change

Personal development often gets portrayed as linear: identify problem, apply solution, achieve result. Real human change is messier and more interesting than that.

We work from several core principles about how people actually change:

Change Requires Understanding Context

A behaviour that seems self-defeating might have served an important protective function. Before changing patterns, we need to understand why they exist. Context explains what simple analysis misses.

Insight Alone Isn't Sufficient

Understanding why you do something doesn't automatically change the behaviour. Transformation requires both awareness and new skills. We focus on building capabilities, not just generating insights.

Progress Isn't Always Linear

Development involves setbacks, plateaus, and unexpected breakthroughs. What looks like regression often precedes significant growth. We help you interpret the full journey, not just celebrate the highlights.

Each Person's Path Differs

What works brilliantly for one individual may be completely wrong for another. Effective support requires understanding your specific psychology, situation, and goals. We don't apply generic frameworks.

Sustainable Change Takes Time

Meaningful development isn't about quick fixes or dramatic transformations. It's about gradually building new capabilities and ways of being. We're optimising for lasting change, not impressive short-term results.

The Relationship Matters

Research consistently shows that the quality of the working relationship predicts outcomes more than specific techniques used. We pay attention to whether our collaboration actually serves you.

Who We Are

Our team brings together clinical psychology expertise and extensive practical experience supporting personal development.

Dr. Catherine Wright

Lead Psychologist & Founder

Catherine established Sharp Cube after fifteen years working in both clinical and organisational psychology. Her doctoral research focused on how people navigate major life transitions, and she maintains a particular interest in the psychology of meaningful work.

She's trained in several therapeutic approaches but describes herself as pragmatically eclectic, using whatever methods best serve each individual client. Outside of practice, she teaches graduate psychology courses and contributes to professional journals.

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology, University of Edinburgh
  • Chartered Psychologist, British Psychological Society
  • Accredited CBT Therapist

Michael Chen

Associate Psychologist

Michael joined the practice in 2019, bringing expertise in performance psychology and behaviour change. Before transitioning to private practice, he worked with athletes and high performers, developing strategies for managing pressure and optimising performance.

He's particularly skilled at working with people navigating perfectionism, self-criticism, and the psychological challenges of high-achievement environments. His approach combines cognitive-behavioural methods with acceptance-based strategies.

  • MSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology
  • Registered Psychologist, HCPC
  • Certified Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Practitioner
